Kajuji Masaaki (勧修寺政顕)

Masaaki KAJUJI (1452 – August 19, 1522) was a court noble in the Azuchi-Momoyama Period.

The 9th head of the Kajuji family (lineage can be traced to the Kanroji branch of the Takafuji group of the Northern House of the Fujiwara clan, a noble family) who were tosho-ke (the hereditary lineage of Court nobles occupying relatively high ranks).

Career

He was Jun-daijin (Vice Minister) Norihide KAJUJI's son. His mother was the daughter of Gon Chunagon (Provisional vice-councilor of state) Masanaga ASUKAI.

His biological children include Gon Dainagon (provisional chief councilor of state) Naoaki KAJUJI, Uhyoe no kami (Captain of the Right Division of Middle Palace Guards) Kenryo MACHI (Kunaikyo (Minister of the Sovereign's Household) Akimoto MACHI's foster child, the wife of Osumi no Gon no kami (Provisional Governor of Osumi Province) Ietoshi HATAKEYAMA (Nishiyachi Hatakeyama clan), the wife of Choshuku of the Shirayamahime-jinja Shrine, the wife of Naidaijin (Minister of the Interior) Kanehide HIROHASHI, the wife of Shuri no daibu (Master of the Office of Palace Repairs) Yoshifusa HATAKEYAMA, Naishi no suke (Handmaid) Kuniko HIROHASHI (Kanehide HIROHASHI's foster daughter, entered the court of Emperor Gonara).

On October 11, 1483, he became a Sangi (councilor).

In his later years, together with his child Naoaki, he left Kyoto and relied on his daughter's husband, Yoshifusa HATAKEYAMA and became a monk in Noto Province (or Kaga Province) with his priest name, Masaaki.

He reached Junii (Junior Second Rank) Gon Chunagon (a provisional vice-councilor of state).
